- The city will begin work in January 2017 on the first segment of the sewer rehabilitation project. The area affected by this work is the south end of 100th Avenue adjacent to the lake, and eastward through the Marina parking lot.
- Work on the new Meydenbauer Beach Park is scheduled to begin in mid 2017.
- A bay neighbor recently noticed that the current Meydenbauer Beach Park is attracting vagrants. Overnight encampments were observed from East Shoreland Drive which is across the lake from the park.
- The City of Bellevue has been notified of this problem and a case number assigned to the complaint.
- If you see such activity in our parks or neighborhood, please notify the police using the 911 system for emergencies, or 425-577-5656 for non-emergencies.
- Please reference “Code Violation and Nuisance Complaints Request” #2004414. The City encourages us to report violations and nuisances so they can keep track of problems.
We’d like to give you an update on the new park and related concerns.

At around 2:30 am on January 25th, 4 gunshots were heard, waking some MBNA Board Members who live near the Meydenbauer Apartments. This building has access from both 100th and 101th Avenues to its lobby. Within minutes, police and fire units responded. According to information from police officials, one person was deceased in one apartment, which was on fire.
Most police and fire units responding came down 100th, crossed Main Street and entered the Bellevue Apt property through its gate on 100th. Even a hook and ladder truck entered through this gate. An additional ladder truck accompanied by a pumper came Westbound on Meydenbauer Way SE, turned uphill on 100th, and parked in the street. Fire hydrants on 100th were used. All 52 units of the Meydenbauer Apartment building were evacuated. Two apartments were damaged, the one with the deceased person, and the one below due to smoke and water. For MBNA, the important thing is the emergency use of 100th by first responders. Two ladder trucks, two pump trucks, EMT vehicles, command cars, police cars, etc. all used 100th. This incident certainly strengthens our case for keeping 100th open, instead of closed, as proposed in the park master plan.
MBNA and Meydenbauer Bay Yacht Club representatives recently met with Bellevue, Mercer Island and Medina police, marine patrol, and park officials to discuss crime around the bay and polices responses. The police urged calling 911 even for non-threatening situations so they have a better record of incidents as well as being able to respond in a timely fashion. They also recommend keeping valuables on boats and in cars out of sight, keeping boat curtains or blinds open so neighbors and police can see if intruders on board, and documenting any intrusions with high definition photos or surveillance cameras. They also state that posting No Trespassing signs will help them charge trespassers.
Lets all enjoy our beautiful Bay and keep it a safe and fun place for both homeowners and visiting boaters to appreciate. This Saturday May 2nd is Opening Day of Boating Season.
You should expect a large amount of boat traffic in the Bay, increased activity, and an increased use of the City visitor moorage. Meydenbauer Bay Yacht Club will be hosting members of visiting Yacht Clubs. The UW Husky band will be in attendance. For those of you who live on the Bay, you will recognize this annual event and no doubt look forward to it each year as a part of living on the Bay. Stay safe and enjoy yourself this weekend. Mild winter weather has lead to a late season cyanobacteria algae bloom in Lake Washington. Environmental investigators have found toxic algae blooms in some parts of Lake Washington. People using the lake and dog owners are advised to avoid swimming, wading, or playing in the lake when algae is present. While algae has not yet been found in Meydenbauer Bay, algae blooms can be moved around by wind and wave action. Toxic Blue-Green algae can make humans and animals very ill, and can be fatal if ingested in large quantities. More information on toxic cyanobacteria can be found at www.nwtoxicalgae.com. If you were able to attend our recent forum in October, you saw that MBNA is keeping a close watch on issues concerning neighborhood residents, park users, and boaters. Phase 1 of the Waterfront Park is now under construction; MBNA is monitoring its design and function, working in partnership with the City Planners and Anchor QEA, the design consultant. We are also supporting both Bellevue Police and the Mercer Island Marine Patrol in their efforts to reduce crime and promote boating safety One of MBNA major concerns is traffic in the Meydenbauer Bay area. We are strongly opposed to closing 100th Ave. SE, and we continue to communicate our position to City officials every chance we get. We emphasize the need to improve traffic flows and reduce congestion In our effort to keep 100th Ave. S.E. open, we anticipate that traffic studies and legal advice will be required, and we are making plans accordingly. These efforts will significantly increase our budget. Since its founding seven years ago, MBNA has been supported by donations from concerned citizens. We ask you to please join us and make a financial contribution to MBNA. MBNA is a 501 (c) 3 entity, and donations are tax deductible. Contributions may be made by Pay Pal at www.mbnabellevue.com/donate or by sending a check to: MBNA 227 Bellevue Way NE, PMB 278 Bellevue WA 98004 Please look at your donation as an investment in maintaining your quality of life, freedom of access, and enjoyment of the Bay. Thank you for your interest and support. MBNA wants to thank our growing number of supporters for their turnout at the October 16th
forum held at the Meydenbauer Bay Yacht Club. Over 135 were present. MBNA appreciates your show of support which also provides the City strong evidence of the keen interest that surrounds the park and traffic issues. MBNA is deeply grateful to City representatives from City Council, Park & Traffic departments, the Bellevue Police Department as well as the Mercer Island Marine Patrol for taking the time to join us and to prepare presentations. Although the audience was eager to learn further detail regarding Meydenbauer Bay Park, particularly the proposed closure of SE 100th, definitive answers were not available.
